Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)

Helping BlackMilk secure low-cost solar energy in a PPA to reduce their cost of energy

BlackMilk Clothing is a leading Australian fashion brand renowned for their “popular culture inspired, alternative clothes for those who dare to be different and empower our community to stand out from the crowd…”

The business runs on online store, with their clothing being manufactured in a large industrial shed – this is where a large array of equipment use a high volume of electricity.

The challenge

BlackMilk’s biggest problem was that there were no means for them to reduce their energy consumption – they need to manufacture clothing.

The second challenge what the growing cost of energy – with renewed electricity supply contracts over 80% higher than their previous term, something needed to be done.

The upside of the whole scenario – they were in a leased premise with an enormous roof capable of housing a significant solar array.

The results

With approval from the landlords, Spinifex Energy assisted to negotiate a long-term Power Purchase Agreement for the tenant to finance a solar system capable of generating over 40% of their daily energy usage.

The solar system was delivered within 2 weeks, with almost no disruption to their operation within the premise.

The best result – nearly a 20% discount on solar energy from their grid energy supply contract.

Summary

Spinifex Energy’s strategic partnership with BlackMilk and the landlord has resulted in a successful renewable energy installation that addressed rising energy costs and a need to reduce operational expenditure.

A true case to prove the value of a Solar Power Purchase Agreement.
